Victor Dimoulis is responsible for the entire design, content editing, and continuous updating of recycle.corfu.gr, the first municipal website in the history of the island of Corfu, which directs citizens in a valid and understandable way regarding sustainable waste management and recycling as well as locally available solutions for the separate collection of the different waste streams.
The recycle.corfu.gr is essentially an easy-to-use but at the same time detailed online guide, which helps citizens to effectively participate in the sustainable management of their waste and above all to decisively reduce their failures at the crucial stage of "Sorting at Source". At the same time, it effectively informs them about the available solutions for the separate collection of waste streams already offered within the limits of the Municipality.
Awards of recycle.corfu.gr :
1) The recycle.corfu.gr in the context of the "GREEK GREEN AWARDS 2023", was awarded with 1st place and the «Environmental Information» award, in the category «ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS – ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION» after being judged by a specialized scientific committee appointed by the organizers of the awards. 2) The recycle.corfu.gr has been accepted and has been included in the Tech4Good Marketplace which is a unique and reliable platform of the European Commission that was created within the framework of the 100 Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) and includes ethical, environmentally sustainable, digital solutions that are human-centered, replicable and address specific challenges within European cities and communities. 3) But the biggest distinction is that recycle.corfu.gr was officially recognized as an innovative practice of the wider Public Sector by the "Department of Innovation and Best Practices" of the Directorate of Strategic Planning and Innovation of the General Secretariat of Human Resources of the Public Sector of the Ministry of the Interior. It is the only innovation that comes from a Public body that is based more broadly in the Ionian Islands that was selected and managed to achieve that, placing in this way the Region of the Ionian Islands on the specific map. From the moment that recycle.corfu.gr was created, the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands managed to offer its citizens the necessary answers to the very fundamental questions (Who, Why, How, Where, When) that they are asking every day regarding the sustainable management of their waste.
More specifically, it is mentioned:
1) Which waste streams can currently be diverted to sustainable management within the Municipality as well as indicative materials of daily use from each waste stream?
2) Why should they lead to sustainable management of each one of the waste streams and what are the profits resulting from this particular choice?
3) How they can reuse each of the recyclable materials and/or How they should prepare each material for the best application of "Sorting at Source", while relevant educational videos are also available on some of the available materials.
4) Where can geographically, per municipal unit of the Municipality, find a special bin available to separate each stream of waste and separate collection of them, using a special search tool in the "Recycling Map" field?
5) The Cleaning and Recycling Service hopes by supplying the appropriate equipment (sensors, GPS trackers, software, etc.), among other things, to transform the current form of waste collection into a "smart" one and to offer an answer to the question of "When" the garbage trucks they will be located near every geographical area of the Municipality, in order to prevent the phenomenon of waste remaining in the bins for a long period of time and to facilitate their timely and efficient collection.
